January 2005, 35 people representing a number of different faith groups gathered in Boise. The gathering was called by Zelinda Welch, Regional coordinator of Bread for the World (a Christian voice for ending hunger). We were inspired by Offering of Letter video featuring the Oregon Faith Roundtable Against Hunger. This resulted in the formation of the Idaho Interfaith Roundtable Against Hunger. Our work was to raise awareness of hunger in Idaho (at the time 8^th hungriest state in U.S.), develop solutions to root causes of hunger through education & public policy.
We believe in the two feet of service, direct service and advocacy. Service means works of justice as well as works of mercy. In addition to one on one caring for survivors of injustice, service means working to change the situation that created the problem in the first place.
The organization grew to include many Christian congregations as well as Jewish and Muslim groups.
